Onexposure: the first 3

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Tough crowd! Yesterday I submitted my first photo from my photoblog to Onexposure, and predictably the first on got rejected without any comment.

Then I tried 2 more hopefully the miracle might happen. The second one got rejected even with a positive comment! Now, the third one passed the first phase of the screening process.

Guess what? I had to pull the best out of my portfolio material just to get that far!

So, I think I can call this a “taste test” experiment since I have no idea what kind of image people are looking for. I can see the artist-client relationship from this experience, and this scenario can definitely be used in the real world. I think I just started to love this site!

Update: All rejected! If this is compared to boxing it’d be like going from local ring to fight Mike Tyson. KO’d in 1st round.

Onexposure http://1x.com

Finally, I think I may have found the perfect place to get useful criticism for my photos.

Up to today, I’ve been lingering only in the world of snapshooters: people arming themselves with point-and-shoot cameras firing away shots hoping to get those shallow “amazing” and “wow” comments on Flickr. Sugar-coated candy maybe nice and sweet, but does it help me grow up and develop strength? What I really need are nutrition and medicine of the mind. They may be bitter, they may be hard to swallow, but at the end the bottom line is that I get what I needed to be better at something.

I may be intimidated to post there at first judging from many excellent examples found everywhere on the site. All I need is a self-belief that my works are second to none and I’m really proud of them.

Revival in progress

Welcome back!

This should be the 3rd reincarnation of The Dreamer’s Journal. I really got frustrated with how Blogger shifted its focus from FTP development to their inflexible web-based system that shut out features for FTP blogs. I don’t have any idea how this incarnation will last (also depending on how busy I am with school) but I’ll try to keep it afloat whenever I got some time to write.

As for theme, I’ll stick with this for a while since I’m not totally familiar with WordPress platform in terms of layout design. Perhaps that should be my weekend project this week.
